Just include the numbers, not my instructions or questions.
Please include at least TWO textbook page numbers or other source per
response as an in-text citation, like (Kendall, 11).
Use paraphrasing, summarizing, explaining. Do not use quotes,
except a short one here and there.
(Paragraphs 1 and 2) Choose two key points from Chapter 1 and write one
paragraph (about 180 words each ) on each key point. Key points can be
determined by you as you read or view a video, and something catches
your interest, or at the end of the chapter there is a list of key terms, or you
can choose section headings in the chapter.
Paragraph 3, 180 words) How can the various sociological perspectives be
applied to explaining suicide? (Explain the three main perspectives of
functionalist, conflict and symbolic-interactionist. How might these
perspectives interact to explain suicide? Do you find one perspective
especially persuasive?
Paragraph 4, 180 words) Compare and contrast the research methods that
sociologists use to analyze society. What kinds of research topics are most
appropriate to which method?
Paragraph 5, 180 words) Watch the trailer of the documentary “Tough
Guise” and answer the following questions:
a) How does Jackson Katz show that men’s behaviors are socially
constructed (this concept is discussed in Chapter 1) and socially learned?
b) How does the Media, a key social institution, shape how we perceive
men in American society?
c) One of Katz’s central arguments is that our society creates violence so
that it is a normative expectation rather than an act of deviance or a social
abnormality. Do you agree or disagree, and why?
