Part A

This week we focused on the rapid changes that occur in infancy into toddlerhood for young children. Infants’ and toddlers’ social relationships are also influenced by inborn temperament. Some children have inherited difficult dispositions; others have inherited easy ones. Bold, timid, and slow-to-warm-up children can also be differentiated. Some variations in temperament are due to cultural traditions and differences in parenting styles.

For this week’s posting- In no less than one paragraph, discuss your beliefs about the power of inborn temperament in human development. Discuss implications for caregivers, including a need to appreciate unique temperaments and to adapt interactions accordingly. Include a video or article to validate your statements or provide an example of a time when you worked with young children and how you had to adjust your actions because of a child’s temperament.

Include a video or link to an article that talks about the different dispositions of young children or the importance of social activity like play groups for young children.

Part B

After viewing course videos through class so far, reading Chapter 4 and reviewing the Developmental Milestones document chart below, think about how infants and toddlers develop and how the different areas of development (Physical, Cognitive, Social Emotional) are connected.  Write a short one-page essay about ways that a teacher in a classroom can support a young child’s development.   What activities can a teacher do to help a child move from one developmental stage to another?  How can a teacher tie one area of development to another?  Talk about how it is important for the teacher to support the child’s development through the different developmental areas.  How can a teacher be “purposeful” when planning activities to support a child’s development?  Why is it important to understand the developmental milestones in a child’s development?
