Discussion

In the last several years, amidst controversy and fraudulent science, psychology has begun a serious process of open and transparent science to avoid irresponsible or nefarious activities (e. g., making up data; re-analyzing data until it tells you want you want). Please read the article about
the open science framework

to get an idea of what it is about.  (This article will take you out of the module. Please click back on the module to return from the article). Is this a good step forward for psychology? Also read

this article
for further information on the “replication crisis” and open science. Note: A bit of profanity is present in one of the titles. Also, this reading will take you out of the course. Please return to the course after reading by clicking on the course tab in your internet browser. Do you think the goals of the OSF will improve scientific integrity? Is there something else we can do to prevent research fraud and inaccuracy?  Think back to Bem’s (2006) quotation in module 3 about fishing for anything. Is psychology moving in the right direction to protect scientific integrity? Why or why not? How does this relate to the “New Statistics”? Post your response by Thursday at 11:59 pm and respond thoughtfully to at least two classmates by Sunday at 11:59pm.

Please go to the OSF web site (
https://osf.io/).  When you go to the site, it will ask you to create an account. Please consider doing so; while you do not need it at present, you may be asked to share your materials and data from your capstone study on the OSF once you have completed it if your study is publishable.

HERE
Is a video of a live session with a walk-through of this process. It is a bit intimidating, but it is the best we have right now to protect scientific integrity!
