PRACTICUM OBJECTIVES

DNP PROJECT SUMMARY

I am a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC). My clinical site is at a private practice in Norcross, Georgia, USA. The private practice offers psychiatric mental health care to individuals across the lifespan.  My preceptor for this project is the Managing Director
. He will provide strategic guidance, support, and resources necessary for the successful execution of the project and overall responsibility for project management and coordination. I will analyze the gap in our practice, and coordinate, develop, and deliver training programs for nursing staff. My preceptor has the authority to make decisions related to project planning, resource allocation, and risk management. Major decisions requiring budgetary or strategic implications will be discussed and approved by sponsors and key stakeholders. Physical monitoring before recommending and prescribing medication for various mental health conditions is not required. This practice gap is an issue in my organization. For instance, research indicates that less than 50% of patients on prescription drugs in mental care settings undergo critical monitoring when they seek care in England (Ayre, Lewis, and Keers, 2023). Physical monitoring of vital signs and other areas such as weight and blood level for illicit drugs is critical for mental health patients. Furthermore, it guides the characteristics of the health condition and the patient’s body’s ability to acclimate to the resulting stress on the well-being of their various physiological components (Sapra, Malik, and Bhandari, 2020). My Staff Education Project seeks to improve the identified practice gaps in an organization by implementing related interventions. Therefore, reiterating the basic tenets of patient care promotes -evidence-based practice in healthcare organizations while closing practice gaps.
