Talking About Race Paper

For this assignment, please read one of two books about how to talk about race and engage in more conversations around race. For many of us, these conversations are uncomfortable; but just because something is uncomfortable, that does not mean we should avoid it. These conversations are not easy but are crucial to understanding complex issues surrounding this topic. You will pick one of two books to read:

1. Olu, I. (2019).
So you want to talk about race. Seal Press.

2. Kendi, I. (2019).
How to be an antiracist. Random House.

Assignment Guidelines

· Choose to read one of these books and begin to engage in more dialogue about race with another person

· This could be a significant other, a family member, or a friend

· Write a reflection paper about the book, your conversations with other people, and what proactive steps you are going to take to continue to have ongoing conversations about race

Parameters

· Papers should be approximately three pages (750 to 800 words), double-spaced with 1” margins on all sides, excluding references

· Cite and reference at least five resources from other class readings

· Weave the discussion of these materials into a discussion of your reaction
