Community Needs Report
This report has been prepared by a (fill in the CRN and Branch) students from the Saudi
Electronic University as part of the PHC 274 Health Planning course. The report is based on a survey
conducted among a sample of 20 students. The survey aimed to assess the community needs of the
students and gather their feedback on various aspects of the school environment and activities.
Demographic Information:
1. School Branch: The pie chart shows the distribution of students across different branches. The
majority of students (40%) attend the Riyadh branch, followed by Dammam (15%), and Jeddah
(10%). The remaining 35% are distributed among the other branches.

Community Needs Assessment:
1. Physical Environment and Infrastructures: Most students rated the playground and recreational
facilities, classroom spaces and learning environments, and restrooms and hygiene facilities as
‘Good’. However, safety and security measures received a ‘Fair’ rating from the majority of
students.
2. Academic Life and Social Activities: Tutoring and academic support programs, sports teams and
physical education classes, and clubs and extracurricular activities were rated as ‘Very
interested’ or ‘Interested’ by most students. Art, music, and creative expression activities, and
social events and community gatherings received a ‘Neutral’ rating from the majority of
students.

3. Awareness about Health Topics: Most students reported knowing ‘A lot’ or ‘Some’ about road
injuries and safety precautions, substance abuse and its effects, obesity and healthy eating habits,
and chronic diseases like diabetes and asthma. However, topics like ischemic heart disease,
stroke, lower respiratory infections, cancers, and Alzheimer’s disease were less well-known
among students.
4. Preferred Health Awareness Activities: Workshops and presentations were the most popular
health awareness activities, followed by discussions. Role-plays, cooking classes and nutrition
education sessions, and fitness challenges and exercise programs were less popular.
5. Extracurricular Activities: 50% of students might participate in extracurricular activities, while
25% are not sure, 15% probably won’t participate, and 10% definitely won’t participate.
6. Preferred Timing for Extracurricular Activities: The majority of students (50%) prefer
extracurricular activities to be scheduled in the afternoon, before classes.
7. Preferred Days for Extracurricular Activities: 50% of students prefer extracurricular activities on
weekends, while 40% have no preference.
8. Preferred Format of Activities: 50% of students prefer on-site (in-person) activities, while 30%
prefer virtual (online) activities, and 20% have no preference.
Suggestions and Comments:

Students suggested improving the safety and security measures in the school.

They also suggested having more tutoring and academic support programs.

Some students suggested increasing awareness about ischemic heart disease and Alzheimer’s
disease.
This report provides valuable insights into the needs and preferences of our school peers. It will help us
in creating an effective community action plan.
