Actionsby Kalley Huang.

1.In your first post, use the article from Huang to address the following questions: What are AI chatbots? Why are colleges and universities concerned about them? What are they changing as a result? What are your views on AI bots? What do you think about students using them for assignments that ask them to do their own writing? 250 words

2. In your follow up post, find a classmate whose perspective was different than yours or that raised a different question or issue than you did. How did it differ? What did it make you think about? What do you think our class approach to the use of AI through tools such as Grammarly and ChatGPT should be? 250 words.

Classmate reply : Huang describes chatbots are AI that gives information, explains concepts, and creates ideas. In the example a student had the chatbot write an essay regarding religion and philosophy. Different levels of education are having different responses. High school and middle schools are banning the chatbots entirely, removing access to them on their internet. However, higher education institutions are moving towards integrating them. Therefore changing the teaching program, changing the types of assignments, how students are graded, what type of sources are required/ used. I think people should be cautious about AI bots. They take information provided on the internet and use it to create answers. However, the internet is full of not nice things, racism, sexism, homophobia, and much more. Hence, I have found that some answers reek of these biases. I used them personally to create silly photos of our cat with an eye patch, or to become a chef on Chopped and create a recipe with the ingredients I have at home. I’m not opposed to students using them for assignments. The University of Washington had an informational facility panel which discussed the use of AI bots and I thought they brought up numerous good points. One of them being why work against them when you can work with them. Some professors suggested creating assignments and asking students to use AI bots to write them. Then having the student criticize the work that was done or explain why the AI bot was correct. I think this is a much better approach as compared to barring it. It’s a resource, we should use all resources available. That doesn’t mean you should trust it without regard for bias, potential faults, etc. I think banning it creates more trouble, people trying to find work around, constantly being suspicious of students, no one wants that.
