To prepare:

  • Review the introductory textbook chapter in the Learning Resources.
  • As you reflect on the chapter, consider the purpose or passion that drives your interest in social work, as well as the focus area in which you see yourself practicing.
  • Review the Kaltura section of the Classroom Support Center, accessed via the Help button (the i icon) on the left-hand global navigation menu, for information on recording and uploading media in this Discussion.
  • Ensure that you have a quiet place to record without any distractions.

Record and post a 2- to 3-minute video in which you:

  • Introduce yourself.
  • Think back to your first day pursuing a social work degree. How did you feel? What were your hopes and dreams? To what extent have those dreams remained?
  • Describe your sense of professional purpose related to social work. What purpose or cause drives you?
  • Identify the focus area (e.g., addictions, trauma, etc.) in which you envision yourself practicing, including the client population or age group.

Include a transcript and/or edit closed captioning on your video to ensure that your presentation is accessible to colleagues of differing abilities.
