A requirement of the healthcare organization is to ensure that new employees are properly trained and understand privacy rules. Follow-up training is also necessary to ensure that current employees are following the rules, as well. Employers should document that this training has occurred and ensured the materials are current.

This week, you will prepare a PowerPoint presentation, including speaker notes and voice over, designed to train your employees concerning HIPAA and HITECH. Be sure to include the following:

1. Provide ethical underpinnings behind privacy laws.

2. Detail what entities are covered for the regulations.

3. Define
protected health information (PHI) and what should be redacted, if necessary.

4. Identify the proper uses of PHI.

5. Discuss the safeguards that must be in place to protect PHI.

6. Document the notification procedures and requirements for breaches.

7. Explain the potential fines and penalties for a violation of HITECH.

Length: 7-8 slides, not including title and reference slides. Each content slide must have detailed speaker notes

References: Include references for HIPAA and HITECH; in addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources may be included
