Title: Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

Summary:

The “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen happens to be my favourite book. The main character in the book is Elizabeth Bennet. Bennet is among five daughters in Bennet family who are at the brink of falling into poverty because though Bennet has property, it can only be inherited by a male child. Mr Bennet is desperate to marry at least one of his daughters to a wealthy man to guarantee them protection. The book is filled with themes on marriage, morality and misconceptions which are crucial in explaining the social structures in our current societies. Elizabeth’s strength and intelligence makes the book standout and it makes it worth for icebreaker speech as it challenges the audience to reflect on social values and practices.
