n this discussion, you’ll complete your first of three Walk In My Shoes assignments. These learning activities, which will end in your final presentation, explore corrections through the perspectives of individuals most impacted by these systems. We’ll begin by reading two articles from “Life Inside,” a weekly first-person series written by real people who live and work in prison.

Steps To Complete

  1. Read My Biggest Challenge In Prison Isn’t The Violence. It’s Monotony – Opens In A New Window(My Biggest Daily Challenge in Prison Isn’t Violence. It’s the Monotony. | The Marshall Project)
  2. Read Being A Corrections Officer Is Hard Enough. Doing The Job While Pregnant Is A Nightmare – Opens In A New Window(Being a Corrections Officer Is Dangerous. Try Doing It While Pregnant. | The Marshall Project)
  3. Write a discussion post explaining something that surprised you, and why, from each of the articles. Identify a connection between each of the articles and some policy or aspect of corrections we’ve studied so far in this course.
  4. Respond to at least two classmates. In your response, think about:
    1. How was what they shared interesting? Explain.
    2. Did they pick a topic that was obvious or one you had not thought of?
    3. What were the similarities and differences from what you and they shared?
