Introduction

As a business professional, you may encounter situations that require you to apply emotional intelligence in a wide variety of scenarios. For this task, you will act as a consultant and consider a case study that requires you to identify and explain emotional intelligence responses.

Scenario

Refer to Scenarios 1 and 2 in the attached “Corollary Communications Scenarios.”

Requirements

You must use the rubric to direct the creation of your submission because it provides detailed criteria that will be used to evaluate your work. Each requirement below may be evaluated by more than one rubric aspect. The rubric aspect titles may contain hyperlinks to relevant portions of the course.

Tasks may
not be submitted as cloud links, such as links to Google Docs, Google Slides, OneDrive, etc., unless specified in the task requirements. All other submissions must be file types that are uploaded and submitted as attachments (e.g., .docx, .pdf, .ppt).

A.  Reflect on the presence or lack of emotional intelligence—specifically social awareness, self-awareness, self-management or control, or a growth mindset—shown by individuals in Scenario 1 in the attached “Corollary Communications Scenarios” by doing the following:

1.  Discuss the presence or lack of emotional intelligence in Michael’s decision to establish a new work-from-home policy without soliciting the opinions and experience of other senior leadership team members except the CEO.

2.  Discuss the presence or lack of emotional intelligence in Michael’s abrupt dismissal of Anika’s suggestion to physically or virtually meet with each of the senior leaders to review the new policy and ensure their buy-in because it would take too much time, delaying policy implementation.

3.  Discuss the presence or lack of emotional intelligence in the response of senior leaders who ignored the actions Michael requested to be completed by March 30, even though they implied compliance by responding to Michael’s email with thumbs-up emojis or messages to that effect.

4.  Discuss the presence or lack of emotional intelligence in Mei’s decision to approve Michael’s recommended work-from-home policy.

B.  Using the information from Scenario 2 in the attached “Corollary Communications Scenarios,” do the following:

1.  Describe
two specific behaviors within an emotionally intelligent mindset that Michael should use to demonstrate active listening when responding to Anika.

2.  Discuss how Anika demonstrates relationship management towards Michael.

C.  Discuss how you would demonstrate empathetic listening in a specific situation.

D.  Acknowledge sources, using in-text citations and references, for content that is quoted, paraphrased, or summarized.

E.  Demonstrate professional communication in the content and presentation of your submission.
