When discussing health policy analysis, it is vitally important to examine historical research as a means to evaluate and formulate applicable health policy today. When examining the role of government, bioethics, law, sociology, risk management, and equity, it is important to understand how each of these has influenced and continues to influence health policy formation and analysis.

McLaughlin and McLaughlin (2023) suggest “disparities can result from cultural factors, behaviors, social determinants (such as low socioeconomic status), and not receiving quality or culturally and linguistically appropriate care when it is accessed” (p.11). Most importantly, health policy analysis centers around a multidisciplinary approach regarding employing organizations, teams, and research experts to develop, implement, and evaluate positive health care outcomes today and in the future. With that said, a discussion should be ongoing in the areas of health policy formation and analysis. In this week’s discussion, address the following:

  • Discuss how industrialization has influenced health policy formation and analysis.
  • Describe three competing views regarding functionality and challenges of a healthcare system: managed competition, consumer-oriented care, and the status quo of corporate lite.
  • Describe two historical events that have contributed to the evolution of health policy formation and analysis.
