Benzene is also known as an environmental pollutant and can negatively impact humans. When discussing benzene, consideration must also be given to how the chemical is handled and proper labeling of the chemical. Research benzene, its characteristics, and how it is used in manufacturing; then develop a well written-research paper that discusses the following:

Part I: Environmental Risks

1. Discuss how benzene is produced and how it is used.

2. Explain how benzene is introduced and transferred throughout the environment.

3. Discuss the negative effect benzene has on the environment.

4. Provide two examples of the negative effects of benzene on the environment discussed in two peer-reviewed research articles.

5. Discuss how the negative effects of benzene on the environment impacts humans.

Part II: Toxicity Testing

1. Discuss the symptoms of toxicity caused by benzene to humans.

2. Summarize at least two methods of toxicity testing that would be utilized for benzene, which may be supported by the assigned textbook reading for this unit.

3. Discuss a current event that occurred within the last 2 years pertaining to toxic exposure to a benzene and how toxicity was determined. If the assessment methods were not discussed, discuss how toxicity could be determined.

Part III: Product Labeling

1. Identify and discuss the purpose of product labels.

2. Explain the federal requirements for product labeling.

3. Discuss at least two limitations of product labels and what can be done to address these limitations.

4. Discuss the purpose and requirements for shipping container labels for containers with benzene.

5. Discuss possible implications of missing or incorrect label information.

The research paper should be at least four pages in length, not counting the title and reference pages. You should use at least four credible resources. Cite and reference any resources used in APA Style.
