1. Managing team dynamics in a high-growth business environment, which is constantly
evolving, presents complex challenges. Rapid organizational changes often make it
difficult for teams to stay aligned with common goals and promote open informationsharing, which is essential for effective collaboration (Benishek & Lazzara, 2019). In
such fast-paced settings, fostering flexibility in roles and team cohesiveness becomes
crucial, as high levels of organizational stress, frequent turnover, and varying skill sets
can threaten unity and focus (Colquitt et al., 2021). To address these issues, best practices
include creating a clear and supportive communication model, encouraging versatile
roles, and promoting collaboration across departments. Managers benefit from building
trust and establishing open lines of communication, which help teams identify and
address points of strain, thereby strengthening group confidence (Colquitt et al., 2021).
Prioritizing team development and flexibility enhances an organization’s resilience,
enabling it to thrive and adapt even in the face of ongoing change.

different ethical considerations. Authoritative power, often linked to control over
resources, promises, knowledge, or personal connections, has specific implications for
workplace ethics (Colquitt et al., 2021). For example, reward power allows managers to
encourage or penalize employees, but it must be applied fairly to foster teamwork and
trust. Authority-based power, which enables leaders to compel action, is less favorable as
excessive use can harm morale and reduce commitment. Meanwhile, legitimate power

helps create structure and maintain order, though it can sometimes lead to excessive
bureaucracy. Expert power, tied to specialized knowledge, commands respect and
promotes an ethical workplace culture by valuing competence and informed decisionmaking (Kleynhans et al., 2022). Managers should thoughtfully apply ethical standards to
all forms of power, striving to use positive influences that align with the needs, interests,
and welfare of their team members, fostering a supportive environment.

3. The concept of span of control, which refers to the number of subordinates directly
accountable to a supervisor, plays a critical role in shaping both work output and
employee job satisfaction within an organization. An effective span of control balances
employee independence with managerial oversight, potentially enhancing productivity
and team morale. A narrow span of control, where each manager supervises a few
subordinates, allows for close monitoring and support, which is beneficial for tasks
requiring detailed oversight (Colquitt et al., 2021). However, this structure increases
operational costs and reduces organizational flexibility, as more managers are required
for adequate supervision.

Conversely, a broader span of control, where managers oversee a larger number of
employees, fosters employee independence and can reduce organizational costs.
However, it may also lead to manager exhaustion and hinder effective information
sharing (Boned-Galán et al., 2023; Colquitt et al., 2021). The appropriate span of control
depends on factors such as task complexity, employee experience, and available
technological support for communication and workflow (Colquitt et al., 2021). For

example, experienced employees in a technologically advanced work environment may
perform efficiently under a wider span, maintaining high satisfaction and productivity
levels while balancing costs. Thus, aligning the span of control with organizational needs
and resources is essential.
