There are many chronic diseases and complications linked to obesity and metabolic syndrome. Some of those diseases and complications are heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes. These diseases and complications are caused by individuals who have metabolic syndrome and abnormal obesity. Excess fat, increased blood pressure and high blood sugar and cholesterol are all metabolic syndromes that can cause many heart problems (Hopkins, 2024).

People who are obese and have metabolic syndrome are those who have insulin resistance. Their bodies have a difficult time producing insulin which moves glucose into cells for energy. If their body can’t produce enough insulin it can raise blood sugar levels which can cause type 2 diabetes. Those who also have insulin resistance are commonly overweight or obese because their body stores sugar into fat instead of changing it into fuel for our bodies to burn. Having low insulin levels have also been linked to heart complications, vascular disease and stroke (Hopkins, 2024). A high insulin resistance is linked to high cholesterol and high blood pressure. Insulin resistance leads to the overproduction of cholesterol which can contribute to the buildup of plaque in the arteries. Plaque hardens and narrows the arteries making it hard for blood to flow through which can lead to a heart attack or stroke (Mayo Clinic, 2021). Because there is an overproduction of cholesterol the body then creates more triglyceride-rich particles which can also cause many heart diseases. Excess or high Triglyceride causes weight gain as well. Triglyceride is a dietary fat that when stored in the cells can cause obesity which leads to type 2 diabetes (Mayo Clinic, 2021). Obesity and Metabolic syndrome is linked to insulin resistance which causes several chronic diseases and complications. Most of these complications pertain to cardiovascular health. In order to fight this, individuals should change their lifestyle and diet. Eating nutritious clean foods and exercising can help individuals live a long and healthier life.
