Goal Statement

Walden University CACREP Master’s Counseling Program

Good evening, my name is Janae Boone, and I am currently enrolling in the CACREP-accredited Master’s Counseling program at Walden University. From an early age, I discovered my natural ability to actively listen to others, and my passion for counseling was shaped by my personal experiences growing up in a household where my own feelings often went unheard. This realization led me to envision a future where I could provide a voice for those who feel silenced and support individuals in navigating life’s challenges.

My upbringing further solidified my commitment to mental health advocacy. My parents were foster caregivers, and I often witnessed children being prescribed medications without first being offered evidence-based interventions. Many of these children expressed that no one truly listened to their struggles; instead, their emotions were quickly addressed with medication rather than therapeutic techniques that could have helped them develop essential coping skills. Seeing this inspired me to research the effects of these medications and the importance of alternative interventions. I wanted to understand why so many children were left feeling unheard and unsupported, and I became determined to be a part of the solution.

I strongly believe that mental health is just as important as physical health, and my goal is to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals by providing them with the tools they need to cope, grow, and thrive. Through my work in intensive in-home counseling, I have had the privilege of working with families and witnessing firsthand the impact of dedicated support. Seeing success unfold in the lives of those I assist has only strengthened my passion and desire to expand my knowledge and skills in the counseling field.

Enrolling in Walden University’s Master’s Counseling program is the next step in my journey to becoming an effective and compassionate counselor. My ultimate goal is to empower individuals, advocate for mental health awareness, and emphasize the importance of communication and emotional well-being. I also hope to set an example for my children, showing them that it is not about where you start but how you finish. I am eager to enhance my skills and continue making a positive impact in the lives of those who need it most.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
Janae Boone
