This Week’s Topic: Physician Education, Patient Safety, and Board, CEO and Clinical Staff Roles

1. Describe six different subjects a risk manager should include in a curriculum designed for physicians to engage them in patient safety practices. Describe what might be included in each of these modules. Before you do that, take a look at the “Are You Safe” video. What role do the Board and CEO play in education for physicians and all clinical staff as they work to implement a successful risk management program?

2. Revisit the two simulations, “Failure to Obtain Consent” and “Hospital Nightmare”. Discuss what role patient safety practices and physician and staff education play in avoiding situations like these. What are the responsibilities of the Board and CEO to ensure safe practices and staff education are in place?
