Here are just a few examples of controversial, debatable topics in the news.

  • Should there be age limits, or term limits, for politicians?
  • Should the government forgive college student loan debt?
  • Should the government continue to subsidize the purchase of electric vehicles?
  • Should school libraries include books with sexually explicit content? What about public libraries?
  • Should the United States continue to provide military and financial support to Ukraine?
  • Should the United States defend Taiwan if it is attacked by China?

Please choose one of the topics listed above to conduct an ethical analysis. Follow these steps.

  • Locate two high-quality articles on your chosen topic with contrasting views. In other words, if you choose the topic of student loan forgiveness, one article should be in favor of it and the other should be opposed. Read them carefully and analyze their strengths and weaknesses. Each article should be less than a year old.
  • Begin with a brief overview of your chosen topic. Explain why you chose it and make the case for why it is important. This introductory section should consist of a paragraph of four to five sentences.
  • Write a summary in your own words of each article. Each summary should consist of a well-written paragraph of approximately six to eight sentences. Each summary should include one direct quotation from the article. The quotation should be no longer than one sentence. The article summaries should be objective without taking sides or expressing a personal opinion.
  • Take an ethical stand on the issue. Based on your ethical beliefs, along with what you learned from your research, explain your views on the controversial issue. Do not be wishy-washy. Your stance must be clearly stated in a thoughtful paragraph of approximately six to eight sentences.
  • Conclude your response with a few brief closing remarks on the topic. What should people who agree with your point of view do next?

Additional Assignment Requirements:

  • Format the assignment in APA style. Include a References page that lists the full publication information for the two articles selected.
