Discussion Prompt: Speaking to Serve

As servant speakers we are called to use “God’s gift of speech publicly to love our neighbors as ourselves” (Schultze, 2020, p. 3).

  • What does it look like to be a servant speaker? Share an example from Scripture or your personal experience of a servant speaker. Why is he/she a servant speaker?
  • Micah 6:8 say, “And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and  to walk humbly with your God” (The Holy Bible, New International Version). Drawing on material from this week’s reading, particularly chapter 18, how can we relate this verse to our servant speaking?
  • Identify one section of Scripture that helps you to think biblically about communication, and how might you apply this wisdom as you seek to develop public presentational skills?
