Week 6 Discussion: Continue Your DiscussionSampling Using an Anti-Oppressive Research Lens
In Week 6, our focus is on study sampling and measuring variables. You revisited research regarding how sample populations are predominantly Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, Democratic (WEIRD) and how to use an anti-oppressive lens to challenge and dismantle systems of oppression and marginalization. As you think about some of the principles of Anti-oppressive research practice:
- Share how you might ensure that you draw a study sample from marginalized or oppressed population. How might you consciously center the voices and experiences in your research?
- Share an article, video, or other resource related to study sampling using an anti-oppressive research lens. What are some of the key take-aways?
- Share a peer-reviewed journal article related to the topic you selected for your assignment. What method was used for the research—qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-methods? Why do you think the authors chose that method?
- Which research method design do you prefer? What are some strengths of the method? What are some limitations?
