Reflecting on the U.S. Healthcare System

“We do not learn from experience…we learn from reflecting on experience.” – John Dewey

Now that we are at the end of the course an important learning tool is reflection. John Dewey, a famous academic spoke to the need, after living through an experience, to go back and contemplate what was learned. In virtual simulation and high-stress situations, this reflection may be called debriefing. It is hoped that you have come away from this course with not only fundamental knowledge about how the US healthcare system works, but an understanding of how it has come to this place, the forces that have impacted it, and most importantly, what needs to come next.

You will likely write many reflection papers during your academic career. They are academic papers and not simply a review of your personal opinions. Watch this nice, brief review on how to write a reflection paper prior to beginning the assignment.

Note: this is the third week you have used the Writing Template. Keep it, use it, and improve your academic writing. Many a career has been derailed because a capable person comes across as unprofessional in their formal writing. As this is likely one of the early courses you will complete, this aspect is being introduced here. At this early stage, the focus is not on APA, it is simply on good writing skills. And that takes effort and practice. Academic writing is a skill like everything else that we must work on. This one simple template with good writing will take you all the way through several academic levels. It is a must.

    HP111 Writing Template (Word doc)

  • The introductory paragraph should contain a brief summary of the content of the course.

  • First level two heading: Importance of the Topic (use bolded words here as the heading) (the topic is the U.S. Healthcare System).

  • Second level two heading: What I Found Most Important (use bolded as the heading) (choose the 3-4 aspects that you feel were the most important things you learned from the course)

  • Third level two heading: Careers (what careers might you be interested in with this new learning, feel free to include potential future careers based on trends).

  • Fourth level two heading: Changed Opinions (include a reflection on what personal opinions (if any) you have changed after learning the content in this course).

  • Write a brief Conclusion paragraph (summarize the paper)

  • The template must be used. If it is not used the paper will not be graded. Use feedback from the week 7 submission on how to improve the content and your writing. Be certain to submit it to free Grammarly prior to the dropbox.

  • Cite any references. Proper grammar, sentence structure, and spelling are required. Use your own words. Copying and pasting are not allowed.

Submit the paper to
free Grammarly and fix the spelling, grammar, and sentence structure pointed out by the program. There is no copy and pasting and no quotes. Put it all into your own words.
