Heads-up

Two separate assignments are required to be submitted this week. This assignment is Assignment 1, which is the
Leading a Virtual Team assignment. It involves choosing a fictional team scenario where you will insert yourself as the team lead. For Assignment 2, you will start on the road to completing your Week 7 PowerPoint presentation by providing some basic information.

Instructions

For this assignment, you will assume the following role: Leader of a Virtual Team.

As the leader, you should be eager to design an A+ team. Earlier in this lesson, you learned the ten strategies needed for designing an A+ team, now you will apply those strategies to
one of the scenarios that you selected from below. This fictional virtual team for which you are the leader is in the first stage of group development—forming—where orientation is needed.

Review and choose
one of the following two scenarios as your focus for Assignment 1.

Scenario 1

Scenario 2

A team has been formed at work, and the purpose of the team is to improve the shared workspace experience. Concerns of neatness and collegiality have been identified, and this team is to resolve those issues by implementing a strategic plan of action. This team will be meeting through an online platform. You are the leader of this team.

Part 1: Introduction

In Part 1, you will write an introduction that could serve as a document to be read if you were actually leading this virtual team. It could be a team at work that is meeting through Zoom, WebEx, etc. It could be a team in your neighborhood that meets through FaceTime, WhatsApp, etc. It could be a committee that has been formed within an organization of which you are a part. In this page-long introduction, develop the elements of listening, speaking, being culturally sensitive, and managing conflict.

If this fictional team was formed and you were made the leader, what would you need to say in order for the following elements to be clearly addressed with the other team members?

1.
Listening: The importance of listening as a member of the team.

2.
Speaking: How verbal communication should take place within the virtual meetings.

3.
Culturally Sensitive: The importance of being culturally sensitive while communicating in the team.

4.
Managing Conflict: How conflict will be managed during virtual meetings.

So, what do you want to say? How will you start this team’s first virtual gathering so that the tone and expectations are established?

Part 2. Reflection

In your 2A to 2D reflection, you will have the opportunity to explain the reasoning you used for incorporating all four elements of listening, speaking, being culturally sensitive, and managing conflict in your Part 1 introduction. You will write a full paragraph under each of the four headings seen below.  Within each paragraph, you will need to include a reference from the lesson or textbook. Please use all headings as found on the required template.

·
2A. Listening

· In this paragraph, you will explain how you addressed listening within the introduction. Share what guided your strategy and what source you used.

·
2B. Speaking

· In this second paragraph, you will explain how you addressed speaking within the introduction, what guided your strategy, and what source you used.

·
2C. Culturally Sensitive

· In this paragraph, you will explain how you addressed the need to be culturally sensitive in the introduction. Share what guided your strategy and what source you used.

·
2D. Managing Conflict

· In this final paragraph, you will explain how you addressed managing conflict in the introduction. Share what guided your strategy and what source you used.
