Assessment Description

The purpose of this project is to become familiar with the credentialing and regulatory processes that govern clinical mental health and school counseling practices. There are three sections to the assignment including understanding the role of the board, how to achieve licensure/certification in your state, and the complaint process reviewing common violations and sanctions committed by licensed clinicians and school counselors.

To complete this project, use resources provided by your state board of mental health or state department of education where you currently reside or the state where you plan to practice as the basis for your research.

Explore the Licensure Requirements, State Certification Requirements, and NBCC – State Board Directory websites in the Topic 6 Resources to find your state governing board.

Information regarding credentialing in the state you have selected can be gathered in one or more of the following ways. (These are options. You are not required to do both.)

1.     (Preferred) Reviewing the content of the state credentialing board website.

2.     Attending a public meeting of the state credentialing board and/or review public meeting notes online

Note: Please do not contact the board to get this information as most likely they will not get back to you in time to complete this assignment. In addition, as you will be gathering information about credentialing, it is important you use paraphrasing as well as in-text citations to avoid plagiarism issues.

Access the “State Credentialing Board Research Project Instructions” to find the required slide content. Then organize the information into 7-10 slides, including a title slide, references slide, and speaker note for each slide with approximately 150 words per slide.

NOTE: Do not copy and paste exact statements from the website used or your LopesWrite percentage will be too high. Paraphrase the important information when elaborating statute information, common violations, etc.

Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

You are required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite. A link to the LopesWrite technical support articles is located in Course Resources if you need assistance.
